A break from the heat : Kauai 2012

Back in June, Jamie and I once again vacationed on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. Now I really, really want to move there! I’m sure I could do it… I’m sure Jamie couldn’t. Bummer! I think she’d miss the mountains too much (and pesky things like friends and family). If we sold our house(es), all of our stock, and cached in our 401k’s, I think we could do it. The most adventurous thing we did was kayak the Na Pali coast.

Farries Guilty

Guilty on all 10 charges, including hit and run (oddly, the maximum sentence), manslaughter, and vehicular homicide. I’m happy that I wasn’t on the jury, but I’m even happier she was found guilty.

Detra Farries Should Fry

Ya, I haven’t posted in over a year, and this isn’t going to be an upbeat one, either. So, a few weeks ago I was called in for jury duty. It’s only happened to me twice before in Colorado. The first time I called the night before and didn’t have to show up. The second time I went in, but I was released around 1pm (the perp made a plea bargain).

Cancun is balmy in the summertime

Jamie and I spent the first week of August in Cancun. It was our first time to Cancun, and we really enjoyed it! As usual, our “let’s just relax” trip turned in to “oh, I guess we did a lot” trip… happens every time.

So long to an old friend

With a saddened heart, it pains me to say that we had to put Gali down on Sunday, June 27th. Gali was part of our lives for the better part of 10 years. We like to think he lived a long and joyful life (although I’m sure he’d say different).

Video from Africa

When we bought a new camera for Jamie, we made sure it took video as well. It’s pretty standard these days.

I finally got around to figuring out what to do with (I’m a photograph person myself). Anyway, here are a few videos from our trip to Africa.

Dumela, O Kae?

For those that don’t know, that’s “Hello, how are you?” in a South African dialect called Sesotho. We know this because a college student we met

Christmas in NY

Jamie and I flew back to New York for Christmas again this year. As always, we had a great time. The worst part about the trip was that we didn’t get to spend much time with my Dad. He was in the hospital for about a week. He’s out, which is good

2009 Christmas Letter

This year we decided to save a few trees. Instead of printing up and mailing our letter, we put in online. Click this link for the letter: DOESN’T EXIST ANYMORE We’re still sending out pictures, but at least we can be a bit greener by using our website.

Pikes Peak Ascent

Well, Jamie finally did it. She ran the Pikes Peak Ascent! Man, what a feat.
