Another New Site

I’ve once again change the site layout/design. I supposed that’s the nice thing about being a software engineer! The new design is much cleaner, leaner, way more secure, and has virtually no maintenance. Goodbye WordPress, hello Hugo!

Happy New Year!

Today we begin another yet another year. That’s a good thing! I’m glad some people’s interpretation of the Mayan calendar was wrong. I’ve even happier that no idiots saw it fit to party like there was no tomorrow and give me a bad day. Jamie and I went up to the cabin this weekend. It was quite nice. We skied a couple of days at Monarch, and we rang in the new year with our very good friends Mike and Katie.

Mt. Princeton

We bagged another 14er this year. This time it was Mount Princeton, which sits at 14,197’. It’s right near our house in Buena Vista. That’s nice because we didn’t have to drive a long way to get to it, or have a long drive after hiking it. It was definitely not my favorite 14er. I’d say about 70% of the hike is on talus. Of that 70%, probably 40% was scary talus.

Fly fishing 101

Jamie has made it a summer goal to learn to fly fish. Really, I think it’s a mortal sin to live in Colorado and not know how to fly fish (that’s what I hear, anyway). To that end, Jamie and I purchased a Living Social deal that fulfilled her goal. Sweet! We took a Fly Fishing 101 class at the beginning of July. This was a class with two other people and a guide.

Waldo Canyon Fire

Wow… definietly the worst thing to happen to Colorado Springs since I moved here in 1993. It’s crazy how much damage the fire has caused. Luckily, I think the destruction is over. As of tonight, the fire is 80% contained and we haven’t lost any structures since Tuesday, 6⁄26. All in all, Colorado Springs has lost 346 homes. It’s terrible. Jamie and I, luckily, are fine. We live pretty far south of the fire.

Farries Guilty

Guilty on all 10 charges, including hit and run (oddly, the maximum sentence), manslaughter, and vehicular homicide. I’m happy that I wasn’t on the jury, but I’m even happier she was found guilty.

Detra Farries Should Fry

Ya, I haven’t posted in over a year, and this isn’t going to be an upbeat one, either. So, a few weeks ago I was called in for jury duty. It’s only happened to me twice before in Colorado. The first time I called the night before and didn’t have to show up. The second time I went in, but I was released around 1pm (the perp made a plea bargain).

2009 Christmas Letter

This year we decided to save a few trees. Instead of printing up and mailing our letter, we put in online. Click this link for the letter: DOESN’T EXIST ANYMORE We’re still sending out pictures, but at least we can be a bit greener by using our website.

Pikes Peak Ascent

Well, Jamie finally did it. She ran the Pikes Peak Ascent! Man, what a feat.

Christmas Party

Shortly after Thanksgiving, we had our annual Christmas party. It was a ton of work, but it was all worth it. Thanks to everyone who came! iPhone

Well, I finally have my iPhone!? Woot!? It took a long time (I’ve wanted one since they first came out - 6.27.2007). I took a year and half and a second job… but… whatever. It was all worth it ;) This thing is really amazing. I’ve played around with them a little bit in the past, but I can’t believe what this thing can do. I highly recommend it if you can get your hands on one.

US & Crude Oil

The DOE website shows how much crude oil the US imports each month and where it comes from. It’s a good read. http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/dnav/pet/pet_move_impcus_a2_nus_epc0_im0_mbbl_m.htm Here’s a breakdown of the top six places (I wanted to include Iraq) we imported crude oil from in August, 2008: Rank Country # Barrels % of Top 6 % of Total Imports 1 Canada 56.8M 24% 18% 2 Saudi Arabia + 47.5M 20% 15% 3 Mexico 40M 17% 13% 4 Venezuela * 35.5M 15% 11% 5 Nigeria * 32.1M 14% 10% 6 Iraq *+ 20.5M 9% 6% I find this pretty interesting.

Internet Explorer vs Mozilla Firefox

A while back I happened to use IE6.0 to view this site. I was a bit disappointed. It kinda looks like crap. At first I was going to look into changing the WordPress theme. Then I got really lazy, and now, it’s a matter of principle. The site looks great in Firefox. Therefore, screw Microsoft. Besides, no one should be using IE unless they absolutely have to. The good news is that this site looks fine in Internet Explorer 7.0.

Where are your intelligences?

There’s an educational theory involving how we learn. It’s called “Multiple Intelligences.”

The theory is that if you know how you are intelligent you can change your learning habits accordingly. It’s interesting, I suppose.

Quick Update

Jobs I found a job. That’s a huge load off of my mind. The timing was perfect. They actually wanted me to start on Monday but I wanted more time off. I start at LSI on the 12th. I’m excited about the new job. It sounds pretty interesting… hopefully it will live up to my expectations! The funny thing is that my new employer is directly across the street from my old one.

Wanna buy me a present?

I like presents. I’ll even take them from total strangers. In case anyone wants to get me a present, feel free! I’ve even made it easy for you. I have a wish list set up at Amazon.com. Click here to go to my wish list. There’s lots of stuff for you to choose from. Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s a “Add all items to cart” button. If you want to buy me everything on the list, it won’t take too long.

Sunrocket Woes

My last few days have been a bit frantic. You see, after being a loyal customer to the 2nd largest VoIP provider in the world I got screwed. I read a /. post about how Sunrocket closed thier doors on Monday night. Uhh… wah? That’s my telephone provider! Greeeaaaaat. I think I’m just about as set up as I can be at this point. After much consideration, I’ve decided to sign up with ViaTalk.

2006 Christmas Party

Last night we had our annual Christmas party. We had a great time.

Last update before the holidays

Jamie and I have been doing well; with the exception of Jamie’s birthday.

I had to go to CA for a business trip and I was supposed to be back late Thursday night ( Jamie’s birthday ). Knowing this, Jamie had planned to go out to dinner with a bunch of her friends from work. Well, a big snow storm hit Thursday and I was unable to come back until Friday night. Since school was cancelled,

New Site

Well, I just can’t stay with the same old site design year after year. That last one was 2 12 years old!

Anyway, I think this one is pretty cool. I’ve gotten rid of most of the clutter. This a ‘blog’ based website. I don’t update it much, but it’s really a blog none-the-less.

I’ve also redesigned the picture albums. I’m starting to convert

Busy May

Update on Dad: He had a minor set back early last week. He got an infection because his white cell count was so low. He wound up going in to the hospital on Tuesday. He was released Friday afternoon. He’s doing better today.

Wow. We’ve had a pretty big few weeks.

First of all, our hardwood floor are finished. They look great too. We went with red oak with a dark cherry finish. We are waiting to replace the baseboards until we get the walls painted. Looks like it will be a busy summer. Good think Jamie’s taking this summer off!

About two weekends ago

August Update

The mono didn’t take hold nearly as much as I’d feared. I actually got better soon after the last update. Probably three weeks in all. I never got the fatigue either, which was very pleasant. Well, with mid-August brings me back to school. I took the last 1⁄2 quarter off. I’m sure going back’s going to be rough. I’m also taking a half quarter off in the fall. The setup pushes two classes into my third calendar year.

Update

Things are status quo here, nothing new to report. What else is new?!? We're getting ready for the summer. It finally stopped snowing in Colorado. We were suprised to get snow all the way into late April. Now that's gone, and the flowers are beginning to bloom (not a welcome sight for all of us alergy sufferers out there ;)). Jamie's still working all those jobs, and I'm still in school.

Did you know we moved?

Ya, umm… we were going to send out Christmas cards this year so everyone would have our new address. As you probably know, we didn’t. Sorry ‘bout that. Don’t worry though, we still got a bunch of Christmas cards that were forwarded from our old address. You can find the particulars in the Contact Info portion of this site. Our phone number hasn’t changed, so please give us a call!

New Site

Well, as you can see we’ve changed the website quite a bit. I guess I got bored with the old one. I came across an interesting thing one day while surfing the net: PHP-Nuke. I decided to give it a try… -Tim
