Sayulita

We took a quick break from our daily lives to attend a wedding in Sayulita, Mexico. Katie Lee, Jamie’s cousin, was married to Jeff Sterett on the beach on 12/13/14.

The wedding was beautiful, and the food (and booze!) was amazing. Thanks so much for inviting us! It was a bit of an odd experience, as Jamie and I have never traveled to Mexico with so many people we knew. I think there were about 90 people at the wedding. That’s insane! We couldn’t really walk down the beach without running in to a group of people.

Most of us rented houses right on the beach, and most of the houses were close together. That was a great experience. All of us enjoyed “house -> pool -> beach”. Our part of the beach was pretty far North-West of downtown. That was perfect. There wasn’t much foot traffic in front of the house. The surf, however, was rough! Jamie and I went in one day. It’s wasn’t a very pleasant experience. That’s why so many people go to Sayulita to surf.

We never had a bad meal while in Sayulita (some places listed below). For me, one of the greatest dining experiences is when George treated all of us to a dinner cooked by a local chef (a team, actually) made entirely in the kitchen of Casa Kestos (where they were staying). The food was incredible. It was also a time to get rid of a lot of the alcohol that was piling up in the various houses, as it was the last day most people would be in Saylita.

Food

  • Don Pedro: Really good food and great margaritas; right on the beach
  • Tacos Al Pastor (by Tacos El Ivan): These guys had a taco stand during the reception. Amazing tacos! I can't stress that enough. I could have eaten them all night.
  • Burrito Revolution: Antonio (the owner) is really fun to talk to and very attentive to his customers. Great food!
  • Chocobanana: Eclectic mix of mexican and fusion food. Looks like a great place for breakfast.

Lodging

  • Casa Cantamar: This is were Jamie and I, Marcia and John, and Laura stayed. Quaint place, and little dated. Top floor has is open; beware of mosquitos
  • Casa Kestos: This is where George and Christine, Mary and Steve, Mike and Terra, and Jennifer and Kaitlyn stayed. Really pretty place at the end of the beach. We spent a lot of time here.
  • El Palacio: This is part of the place that Tom and Karen rented for the wedding. It was definitely the fanciest one. This house has 3 floors and an elevator!
