Fly fishing 101

Jamie has made it a summer goal to learn to fly fish. Really, I think it’s a mortal sin to live in Colorado and not know how to fly fish (that’s what I hear, anyway). To that end, Jamie and I purchased a Living Social deal that fulfilled her goal. Sweet!

We took a Fly Fishing 101 class at the beginning of July. This was a class with two other people and a guide. Our guide taught us the basics of fly fishing (and I mean basics). We pulled up our waders and headed into the water.

Jamie caught the first fish (a 6” brown trout). I caught the bigger fish… an 11” rainbow trout. Cool! The other two people we were with didn’t catch anything. What a bunch of losers! Of course, I’ll probably never catch another fish as long as I live (just my luck). No pictures of either catches (say what you will).

It was a lot of fun. Maybe we’ll do it again some day. We really don’t need another hobby (especially one that we have zero gear for). We have lots of friends who fly fish, however. We can probably mooch off of them for a bit.
