Adoption Wait Time
15/May 2008
Here’s a sad truth. It takes a really, really, long time to adopt a child from China. Below is a graph that I’ve compiled with data from our adoption agency, CCAI. It graphs the number of months that couples have waited for their child from January 07 to May 08.
As you can see, it’s quit depressing. The wait just keeps getting longer. This month, CCAI reported the current wait to be between 28 and 29 months. It’s a scary graph. Jamie and I hope to hell this trend doesn’t continue to increase like that. If it does, we may never receive our child.
Our only hope is that China sees this trend in a bad light. The CCAA ( the agency in charge in China ) needs to add more people to make this process go quicker. The other problem is that orphanages don’t always add their children to CCAA’s list. They get more money in the long run if they raise the child to adulthood. I’d like to think that this doesn’t happen too often. Then again, more supply may ease the demand.
