Adoption Update

Just a quick update on where we are in regards to the adoption.

Most of our paperwork has been notarized and certified by the Secretary of State. They still have to go on to the Chinese Consulate to get authenticated. We’re waiting on that because we still need one more piece of paper from immigration: the I 171-H. This is the grand-daddy piece of paper from the US. The “one paper to rule them all”, so to speak. This allows us to bring a foreign child into the United States as our own. The I 171-H also needs to be certified and authenticated.

We’ve also completed our home visits by the social worker. She’s written her report and it’s been accepted by the Adoption Alliance.

After that, we just need Jamie’s passport back from renewal. We need copies of both passports to go into the dossier. We’re close.

Hopefully our dossier will be sent to China in October. That would put the adoption date somewhere around May of ‘09. The would be pretty good timing considering Jamie’s school schedule. It would have been better to get it there a bit sooner. That way Jamie could take time off from school and still have the summer. Oh well; we didn’t know it would be this much work!
