Jobs
6/May 2006
Holy crap... I got a job! Ya, I know, it's not as if I didn't have a job before. However I really couldn't call that a job. It was far below my skill level, but at least the hours were good. But I digress...
My 12 year anniversary of joining ATMEL was in April. Man... time flies when you just put your head to the grind. Bizarre. About a month or so ago I was encouraged to apply for a job at Agilent Technologies (an inside friend dropped my resume off). After a phone and face-to-face interviews, I was offered a job! I really couldn't believe it. It seemed like I'd be at ATMEL forever.
Agilent seems like a great company to work for. The best part of this whole thing is that I'll be writting actual code! I've been writting BS functions for years and applications on my own time.
I really feel like this is going to sling-shot my coding abilities. I can't wait to start in a week and a half.
The best thing about this is the feeling of being validated. Someone out there actually wants my skills. It's a great feeling. I sure don't get that feeling at ATMEL.
It's also an entry level position. I really don't care what they call it (especially since I'll still get a raise to go there). In all actuality, I could use an entry level position to get my bearings in the software industry since I've never really worked there before. Luckily I graduated with my Master's degree about a year ago. That made me a candidate for this opening.
From the outside, it looks like Agilent is going to be a MUCH better place to work. I hope that holds true once I start working there.
It will be hard to leave my friends at ATMEL; that's the only thing I'm going to miss though. Not the work for sure. And not the upper level management. I have no idea how they make decisions, and that scares me a little bit. I still have lots of stock, so I wish them all the best!
